CBD isolate products offer a great way to consume CBD without consuming other cannabinoids or trace amounts of THC. While CBD products by law contain 0.3% or less THC, it’s still possible for this small amount of THC to show up on a drug test. You also may find yourself wanting to test whether pure CBD products or full-spectrum CBD products work better for your needs. Whatever your CBD goals are, we’ve put together our list of the 6 best CBD isolate products in 2021.
How to Choose a CBD Isolate Product
- Buy from trusted brands. While great progress is being made, the CBD industry is still relatively young and wild. Unfortunately, there are still countless fly-by-night companies that have questionable sourcing, quality, and ethics. At the other end of the spectrum, there are brands like The Hemp Barn and The CBDistillery that are highly reputable and well-established.
- Find the right balance of potency, quality, and price. Like most products, CBD varies significantly in price depending on where you buy it. There are premium grade options and more budget-conscious options, with quality products at both ends of the cost spectrum. Do your due diligence, try different products, and find the intersection of price, quality, and potency that meets your needs.
- Buy the right product for your intended use. CBD is used for a wide and ever-growing range of use cases, from anxiety to pain relief to simply taking the edge off cannabis for those who experience paranoia when smoking. It goes without saying that you’ll want to consider your intended use when evaluating CBD isolate products.
With that being said, let’s move on to our selection of top CBD isolate products:

What is CBD Isolate?
When we say CBD isolate, we mean CBD products that contain only the CBD compound – no trace amounts of THC, terpenes, or other biomass. The majority of CBD products on the market are either full-spectrum or broad-spectrum. Full-spectrum CBD products contain up to 0.3% THC, which can be enough to flag a drug test. Full-spectrum CBD products also contain terpenes, other cannabinoids, and plant extracts. Broad-spectrum CBD products also contain these extracts but are stripped of their THC content.
CBD Isolate vs. Full Spectrum CBD
Full-spectrum CBD products contain not only the CBD compound but also the related cannabindois, trace amounts of THC, and terpenes that produce what’s known as the “entourage effect.” In essence, CBD’s effects appear to be more potent when all of these components are consumed together. That being said, there are use cases and advantages of using CBD isolate products.
For more on this topic, check out our detailed comparison of CBD isolate vs. full spectrum CBD.
Advantages of CBD Isolate
The clear advantage of using CBD isolate products is that they’re completely free of THC. If you don’t get drug tested, this may not seem like a big deal. But for the countless folks for whom drug testing is a regular part of life, CBD isolate products are the only way in which they can confidently enjoy the benefits of CBD without having to worry about failing a drug test.
Also, because CBD isolate contains only the CBD compound, it’s taste and aroma-free. This makes it extremely easy to mix into whatever your vehicle of choice is, or more tolerable to hold under your tongue if you don’t like the taste of full-spectrum products.
Disadvantages of CBD Isolate
As mentioned above, the main disadvantage of CBD isolate products is that it doesn’t contain the compounds that research suggests amplify the potency and desired effects of CBD. That’s not to say that pure CBD isn’t effective or potent in its own right. Many people swear by CBD isolate and report positive, life-changing effects. However, it’s likely the case that, all things being equal, CBD isolate packs less of a punch than full-spectrum CBD.
How is CBD Isolate Made?
We’re not chemists, so we’ll leave the detailed explanations of how CBD isolate is produced to the experts. Needless to say, there are several important steps involved from in making CBD isolate from growing the plant to refining the isolate. These include drying, extracting, refining, distilling, purifying, and crystallizing until you’re left with pure CBD that’s used in products like the ones on our list.
How to Dose CBD Isolate
Everyone’s different and there’s no standard dose of CBD. What works wonders for one person may be completely ineffective for others. The dose you’ll need may also vary depending on your use case. For example, the best CBD dosage window for one person’s anxiety may be quite different than someone else’s dose for something like joint pain. The only way to know for sure is to experiment until you find the dose that works best for you. As a frame of reference, many people take anywhere from 20mg per day to 100mg per day or more. Again, YMMV.
