Interested in trying Redwood Reserves but not sure if they’re up to snuff? Don’t worry, we’ve tried them ourselves and took notes on everything you need to know to make an informed decision. Read on for our in-depth look at one of the more popular CBD cigarette brands on the market.
TL;DR
Redwood Reserves offers a really solid product for the price point. The ordering process is simple, the company appears to be ethical and values-driven, the packaging is cool, and the smoking is smooth.
About Redwood Reserves
Redwood Reserves is headquartered in Portland, Oregon and everything about the brand says Pacific Northwest. The company traces its roots back to a hemp farm located in Willamette Valley, known for its rich soil. To this day, the hemp flower in Redwood Reserves is grown by hemp experts using only sun, water, and soil. The Redwood philosophy is that nature knows best.
The Redwood farm also serves as a rescue home for animals in need of a place to live. According to their website, they have two bulls, alpacas, horses, chickens, dogs, cats, and more. Sounds pretty idyllic to me!
Overall, Redwood Reserves strikes me as a brand I can get on board with. That said, the most important thing is whether or not their products deliver. Let’s dive into the details.
The Product
We tested Redwood Reserves’ original hemp flower CBD cigarettes. They also have a menthol-flavored CBD cigarette as well as several other CBD products, including flower, pre-rolls, dabs, and kief.
For the sake of convenience, I decided to just buy a few of their loosies, or single cigarettes. It’s worth noting the fact that they sell singles because it’s highly convenient for people (like me) who want to see what they’re all about before committing to an entire pack. Two thumbs up from the Fettlist team here.
Price Point
Redwood sells their loosies for $1.99, packs (20) for $12.99, and cartons (10 packs) for $120. While the loosie is the most expensive of the three, this makes sense from the perspective of basic economics. The pricing of 12.99 for a pack of 20 seemed pretty good and is significantly lower than the original price of $20/pack. A couple of years ago, Redwood lowered the price based on feedback from users on Reddit. Overall, Redwood gets a good rating on price. At $0.65 per smoke, you’re getting a solid value, in my opinion.
Packaging
Where Redwood Reserves stands head and shoulders above the competition is their packaging. With its rugged, Pacific Northwest-inspired aesthetic and use of complementary colors, it just looks way cooler than pretty much everything else out there. The loosies come in their own individual packages, which keeps them fresh (I assume) and makes it easy to take them on the go.
I didn’t buy a full pack so I didn’t get to see that particular packaging in person but packs do feature foil to seal in freshness, which is always great to see.
I also like the all-white look of the cigarettes. The white filter paired with the thin gray lines on the paper gives these a crisp, clean look. In summary, Redwood hit it out of the park when it comes to packaging, and a quick internet search will confirm that people love it – including me.
Notes on Quality
Something that tends to come up frequently in online reviews is the presence of seeds and stems in Redwood’s CBD cigarettes. So, I decided to cut into one and see the goods for myself so I could either confirm or disconfirm what I had seen others say.
Now, it should be acknowledged that you’re not going to get 100% top-quality flower in a CBD cigarette, especially one that’s competitively priced. These products are usually intended for folks looking for a healthier alternative to smoking tobacco cigarettes, not CBD flower aficionados. So, I wasn’t totally surprised to see that there was in fact some non-flower biomass in the cigarette I cut open.
It’s not ideal but, again, considering the price point and the intended market and the price point, I think it’d be naive to expect these CBD cigarettes to be 100% flower.
Subjective Experience Smoking Redwoord Reservesd
When I lit up my first Redwood, I experienced the familiar taste, smell, and effects I’ve come to expect from CBD cigarettes. Despite what I mentioned about there being some stems and a seed or two in the one I cut open, I found the draw to be pretty smooth. It wasn’t at all harsh. Not long after lighting it up, I felt the very subtle buzz I usually feel from inhaled CBD.
Redwood says you can expect tasting notes of citrus, earthy, and sweet. Admittedly, I don’t have the world’s most developed CBD palette, but I didn’t notice any of those during my session. The smell of these CBD cigarettes is weed-adjacent; it’s a much, much mellower version of what you’d smell smoking a joint. I didn’t have any qualms smoking it in public.
Overall, I’d have no problem recommending these to those who are dabbling in CBD cigarettes as a cheaper and healthier alternative to smoking traditional cigarettes. They’re cost-effective, have cool packaging, and the Redwood brand seems to be a standup business.
But that’s just my take and your mileage may vary. We pulled some other reviews from around the web so you can get an idea of what others are saying about Redwoods.
What Others are Saying about Redwood Reserves
“Absolutely love these CBD smokes. I smoke THC cannabis on the regular and wanted an alternative. I like the relaxing–dry-runing–dry-runing part of smoking a joint in general. But I can’t be high on THC all day! This is a great alternative. Keeps me mellow, relaxing–dry-runing–dry-runed and still focused on my everyday duties, tasks, etc. Definitely purchasing again.”
