About Mountain Smokes
Before we dive head-first into the products themselves, we always like to learn about the company behind the products. We’ll start with what we know about the Mountain Smokes before moving on to some follow-up questions we have about the company.
“Earth-First” Environmental Conservation Efforts
Mountain Smokes positions itself as an eco-conscious company with what they call an “Earth-First” focus on environmental conservation. Specifically, the company partners with local Coloradan and Oregonian organic farmers and gives them an equity stake in the company in order to build long-term relationships. Their hemp contains no pesticides, chemicals, or additives.
They also plant a tree for every carton of Mountain Smokes they sell. For the eco-conscious consumer, this is a big plus.
Another pretty cool and environmentally friendly feature of their CBD smokes, which we’ll touch on more down below, is that the filter is biodegradable. If you’re like us and hate seeing cigarette filters strewn around our common spaces, the fast-degrading filter is a big deal.
About The Company Itself
Compared to most vendors we’ve come across, there really isn’t much in the way of information about Mountain Smokes on their website. We’d love to see some more background information about the company to help build trust and transparency:
- When was the company founded and by whom?
- Who’s currently on their team?
- Which farms do they partner with to grow the hemp for their products?
The site tells us plenty about the brand’s ethos but it’d be great to know more about the team and its operations.
While we believe it’s possible their hemp could be effective at treating aspects of these conditions, we’d like these clinical trials to be available to the public to review. There have been a lot of medical claims made about CBD in recent years and we feel strongly that claims of medical benefits should always be accompanied by strong supporting evidence.
The Products
Now on to the good part: the products. We’ll start with the anatomy of these CBD smokes before describing our experience smoking them, as well as some pros and cons.
Anatomy of Mountain Smokes CBD Smokes
Mountain Smokes uses organic hemp grown from farms in Colorado and Oregon.
In addition to hemp, their cigarettes contain mullein leaf and sage. Here’s what the addition of those two ingredients means for the smoking experience:
- Mullein: “A tasteless light smoke, Mullein is revered as a highly medicinal herb that cleanses lung infections and inflammation. It’s an expectorant, meaning that it helps in breaking up respiratory congestion and promotes productive coughing.”
- Sage: “Sages are used primarily to impart flavor to smoking blends. There are many varieties worth experimenting with, including white sage (Salvia apiana), black sage (Salvia mellifera), and pineapple sage (Salvia elegans)”
Mountain Smokes states that their hemp is USDA-certified organic. As we mentioned earlier, they also maintain that there are no chemicals, no additives, no harmful fertilizers or pesticides, and no molds or fungi.
Here’s a visual of everything that’s included in one of their CBD smokes:
Price
Compared to other organic hemp cigarettes we’ve reviewed, the price is budget-friendly considering the CBD content. If you’re a budget-conscious CBD consumer, these CBD smokes offer a great bang for your buck. If you’re really trying to maximize your mileage, you can buy a full carton (10 packs) for an even better value.
Packaging
Mountain Smokes’ marketing leans into using CBD cigarettes as an aid for quitting tobacco cigarettes. From the packaging to the smokes themselves, they feel like regular cigarettes. While we’re not tobacco smokers, it’s easy to see how someone who’s trying to quit would be able to maintain the ritual of smoking without the addictive or harmful effects.
Quality
Mountain Smokes includes Certificates of Analysis (COAs) on their website: https://mountainsmokes.com/our-hemp-cigarette-ingredients/
It’s great that they share the comprehensive lab results. Some companies only share a 1-page summary, which always raises questions about what they might be hiding.
Subjective Experience
In a word, Mountain Smokes are smooth. Even a novice smoker can take a full draw of one of these CBD smokes without the difficulty and coughing that sometimes come with smoking CBD flower. This speaks to the quality of the hemp they use.
You can also gauge the quality of their hemp by its smell. It has the strong, telltale scent of high-quality cannabis.
Effects
Upon lighting up a 70mg CBD cigarette, there is an almost immediate calming sensation. I was experiencing strong general anxiety when I first tried Mountain Smokes. I smoked a 70mg CBD cigarette and it definitely reduced my anxious feelings, setting me up for a better night’s sleep than I would have otherwise had.
Something to keep in mind is that these burn down quickly, regardless of how fast you’re smoking them. This isn’t a problem in and of itself but it does mean that you need to focus on smoking so that you don’t miss out on the CBD content.
Aside from the biodegradable filter, another huge plus is the variety of flavors on offer. If you’re not big on the earthiness of hemp, sage, and mullein alone, you can buy Mountain’s mint or pineapple-flavored CBD smokes.
The flavored options are straight-up fun to smoke. They contain a flavor capsule in the filter that you “pop” in order to activate. You’ll need to squeeze harder than you think you would but when you do it correctly you’ll hear an audible “pop.” For your efforts, you’ll be rewarded with a strong, delightful flavor and an unexpected but pleasant cooling sensation.
If you’re the type to try before you buy, Mountain Smokes has 2-packs for sale on their website. At $3.49 each, they’re a great way to dip a toe in the water before dropping $8.99 on a full 10-pack.
What Others are Saying about Mountain Smokes
When it comes to CBD reviews, we believe in sourcing the wisdom of the crowd. Here are some of the testimonials we came across when researching what other customers are saying about Mountain Smokes, as well as a roundup of pros and cons:
“Plenty of bang (CBD) for your buck! I love these 70mg smokes. Delivers plenty of CBD to calm my anxiety and make me feel relaxed.”
Trampus Naslund
“This is the perfect smoke – refreshing, not heavy, and a sufficient does of CBD to help me chill.”
ekstarr
“Smooth smoke. The 70mg strength is hands down the perfect amount of CBD for my back pain. Going to start buying packs of 20 from now on.”
Ryan
“I have struggled with severe anxiety my entire life. Hemp smokes have been benefiting my life immensely for the past year or so.
It was always a mini fix and not strong enough or maybe just not good quality. I kept searching and trying hemp smokes around town but they were all mediocre and didn’t taste that good even though they were helping my condition.
I finally came across the Mountain Smokes online and figured I’d order some instead of driving around and buying bad smokes. This was the best decision I have made in a while!!! The 70mg strength and in the 20packs!
They smoke perfect and taste amazing! I won’t be buying any other brands from here on out.
Mountain Smokes for life!”
Vince
